The Nature Hotel in the Ötztal

A winter holiday in the Ötztal, far away from the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes

Beyond the piste

Winter in the Ötztal reveals itself far beyond the slopes. Around the Naturhotel Waldklause, a serene winter world unfolds – quiet, vast, and deeply immersive.

Perfectly groomed trails wind through snow-covered landscapes, past frozen streams and silent forests. Whether you choose winter hiking, tobogganing or cross-country skiing, each path invites you to experience the season in its most authentic form. For those seeking a touch more adventure, ice climbing and ice skating open up entirely new perspectives on winter.

And in between? A gentle return to the warmth of the NaturSpa.

All around the Waldklause, groomed winter walking paths and snowshoe trails wind their way through snow-covered woods and past frozen streams – ideal for peaceful moments in nature, far from the hustle and bustle. From a leisurely stroll to a long snowshoe hike, there’s something to suit every preference.

Whether with the family or for a sociable evening by torchlight – there are several groomed toboggan runs of varying lengths and levels of difficulty around Längenfeld and Ochsengarten. Toboggans can be hired on site.

Around 60 km of cross-country trails in the Längenfeld-Huben valley basin, plus the snow-sure high-altitude trail in Gries and the Niederthai cross-country centre – classic and skating styles for beginners and experienced skiers alike, set against the wintry backdrop of the Ötztal valley.

On the frozen Lake Piburg, you can skate round and round on the ice, surrounded by snow-capped mountains – one of the most beautiful backdrops for a relaxing winter’s afternoon with the whole family.

At frozen waterfalls around the Ötztal valley, experienced climbers and beginners alike can discover a whole new, exhilarating side to winter with a guide – fully focused, ice axe in hand, amidst the icy scenery.

Away from the groomed slopes, unspoilt hillsides and tranquil peaks beckon. With guides who know the area well, ski tours and freeride descents around the Ötztal can be enjoyed safely and will make for an unforgettable experience.
