As a sustainable eco-hotel in Tyrol, the Waldklause was one of the first establishments in Austria to consistently adopt a glue-free solid timber construction method. Insulated with Tyrolean sheep’s wool and built using local raw materials sourced from regional craft businesses, our hotel meets the quality standards of a low-energy building for tourism businesses.
For us, sustainability is an integral part of our architecture – not just a promise.
Using resources mindfully
Today and for future generations
As a holder of the Austrian and European Eco-labels, the responsible use of natural resources is at the heart of what we do:
- The entire hotel is supplied with certified electricity from renewable, carbon-neutral energy sources and heated via the Längenfeld biomass power station.
- Together with external consultants, we have analysed our water consumption data and implemented targeted measures to reduce consumption.
- A specially developed waste management concept makes the Waldklause a pioneer in sustainable hotel management in the Ötztal valley.
For our little, hard-working helpers
For us, sustainability doesn’t stop at the patio door. All around the Waldklause, we’ve created havens for our helpful animal neighbours with bird boxes, bird baths, squirrel feeding stations and bee hotels. If you look closely, you’ll spot them all over the resort – whilst having breakfast on the terrace, on a stroll through the garden or on your way to the sauna.
From the garden to the plate
What ends up on our plates often begins just a few steps from the hotel.
- We are particularly proud of our herb trail and herb garden, which provide the inspiration for our natural cuisine.
- The unfertilised natural meadows surrounding the Waldklause provide a habitat for countless wildflowers, herbs and insects.
- At the Naturhotel Waldklause, sustainability isn’t just talked about – it’s put into practice – consistently and as a matter of course, with short supply chains, seasonal ingredients and regional produce.
Don't Clean, Go Green
Sustainability often starts with the small decisions we make in everyday life, which is why we rely on our guests’ active participation:
For every room cleaning you choose to skip during your stay, we will plant a tree.
At the same time, you’ll be helping to reduce the hotel’s consumption of water, electricity, and cleaning products, thereby reducing the impact on the environment.
You’ll find a small tree-shaped sign in your room: simply hang it on the door handle and our housekeeping team will know that you’d prefer not to have your room cleaned that day.
We are delighted to welcome you to a business that has received government recognition. In recognition of our consistent commitment to the environment and the conservation of resources, we have been awarded both the Austrian and the European Ecolabel (EU Ecolabel) – two of the most stringent quality marks for sustainable management in the tourism sector.
For us, regionality is not just a trend, but a way of life: mindful shopping, short transport routes and products that have nothing to hide about their origins. Through our commitment to ‘Bewusst Tirol’, we prioritise Tyrolean quality – from the breakfast table to the evening meal.
